SSI Payment as a Percentage of Monthly Income, 2016

We used the Technical Assistance Collaborative, "Priced Out in 2017" data to show how a person with a disability's monthly income from SSI compares to the median income of a person living in that state. SSI income varies from a low of 14.0% of median income in Maryland to a high of 25.7% in Mississippi, with a US average of 19.9%. This measure helps to illustrate why people with disabilities receiving SSI payments are likely to have housing affordability problems.
